Meet The Midwife

Tessa (midwife Orange County) and her husband Wes have two children, both born at home under the care of midwives. She is a graduate of Nizhoni Institute of Midwifery, licensed through the state of California Medical Board, and certified by the North American Registry of Midwives.

“My journey into birth work began with my journey into motherhood. Researching the many choices I had from my labor and birth experience with our son was so empowering for me. I desired as few interventions as possible and to birth unmedicated in the intimacy of my own home. This was a regular, low-risk pregnancy. And so, I hired an expert in normal — a midwife.

Experiencing the midwifery model of care as first-time parents was so special. We were encouraged to take responsibility and be active players in our care and were educated every step of the way. An experience far different than my pregnant co-workers, peers, family, and friends were having. Out of this experience, I felt I could truly do anything. I knew then I would become a midwife. I longed to be another option for families, to invest in their care, and to support them in feeling empowered in their decisions for their bodies and their babies. Here I am today, having cared for many women, in many walks of life, through each of their individually unique pregnancies and births.

Being a midwife is so much more than “catching babies.” It’s a relationship and partnership. It is personalized care. It is watching a family become a family.”
